Extends out into Lake Huron at the tip of Michigan’s Thumb. It is the turning point for northbound ships heading for Saginaw Bay. First Lit in 1877 the lighthouse never housed a keeper.
The keeper lived on the mainland in Port Austin.
Peche island rear range light was originally erected in 1908 as the Rear Range Light at Peche Island in the
Detroit River near Belle Isle. The Coast Guard removed it in 1982 and replaced it with a new tower. The old tower light is now Part of a maritime park in Marine City.

Saginaw River Range light was the first lighthouse Built at the mouth of the Saginaw River. The light Went into service in 1841. The present structure Replaced the original lighthouse, which by 1870 was Badly deteriorated.
